What makes a flat white different
The signature of a flat white is its velvety microfoam — milk steamed with very little air so it is silky and integrated rather than fluffy. It is typically built on a double shot (often ristretto), so despite being small it carries a strong coffee flavor and more caffeine than a single-shot latte or cappuccino.
Think of it this way: a latte is milk-led, a cappuccino is foam-led, and a flat white is coffee-led with just enough silky milk to smooth it out.
Which should you choose?
- Choose a flat white for the strongest coffee flavor in a small, smooth drink.
- Choose a cappuccino if you love thick foam and an airy texture.
- Choose a latte if you want the mildest, milkiest and largest drink.
